Magnetic Moments, Hadron Masses, and Quark Masses

چکیده
Two independent quark-model predictions of the A magnetic moments, in agreement with one another and with experiment to 1%, are obtained by using two different inputs for SU(3) breaking in quark masses: (1) (m, /m„) =(Mq. —Mq)/(M~-Mn); and (2) m, —ni„ =M p, —Mz. I discuss the implications of the surprising sucess of a description of quark magnetic moments as Dirac moments with quark masses related so simply to hadron masses.

A New Slant on Hadron Structure
Rather than regarding the restriction of current lattice QCD simulations to quark masses that are 5–10 times larger than those observed, we note that this presents a wonderful opportunity to deepen our understanding of QCD. Just as it has been possible to learn a great deal about QCD by treating Nc as a variable, so the study of hadron properties as a function of quark mass is leading us to a m...
متن کاملNew Quark Relations for Hadron Masses and Magnetic Moments A Challenge for Explanation from QCD
Prompted by the recent surprising results in QCD spectroscopy, we extend the treatment of the constituent quark model showing that mass differences and ratios have the same values when obtained from mesons and baryons. We obtain several new successful relations involving hadrons containing two and three strange quarks and hadrons containing heavy quarks and give a new prediction regarding spin ...
متن کاملBaryon magnetic moments in the QCD string approach ( the Nonperturbative QCD approach )
Magnetic moments of baryons composed of light and strange quarks are computed for the first time through the only parameter of the model– string tension σ. For example, µ p = m p /c √ σ, µ Ω − = −µ p (1 + 3 4 m 2 s c 2 σ − 15 32 m 4 s c 4 σ 2) −1 , where magnetic moments are expressed in nuclear magnetons, m p is the proton mass, m s is the strange quark current mass, c = 0.957 – a constant whi...
متن کاملMean field baryon magnetic moments and sumrules
– New developments have spurred interest in magnetic moments (μ-s) of baryons. The measurement of some of the decuplet μ-s and the findings of new sumrules from various methods are partly responsible for this renewed interest. Our model, inspired by large colour approximation, is a relativistic self consistent mean field description with a modified Richardson potential and is used to describe t...
متن کاملNucleon Magnetic Moments Beyond the Perturbative Chiral Regime
The quark mass dependence of nucleon magnetic moments is explored over a wide range. Quark masses currently accessible to lattice QCD, which lie beyond the regime of chiral perturbation theory (χPT), are accessed via the cloudy bag model (CBM). The latter reproduces the leading nonanalytic behavior of χPT, while modeling the internal structure of the hadron under investigation. We find that the...
